Michael Bates

Michael Bates is a Lieutenant with the Providence RI Fire Department and has been assigned to the city's heavy rescue "Special Hazards 1" for the past ten years. Lieutenant Bates has served with the busiest engine and ladder companies in the city during his 25 years with the Providence Fire Department. Lieutenant Bates is a nationally certified instructor and works with the Rhode Island State Fire Academy, the Barnstable County Fire Training Academy, the New Hampshire State Fire Academy and the Maine State Instructors Association. Mike has presented hands-on training programs at several national fire service conferences. He is a Rescue Squad Officer FEMA USAR MATF-01 Task Force and he also responded to the World Trade Center on 9-11-01.

Gregory Crawford
Gregory Crawford is a recently retired Lieutenant and 20 year veteran of the Providence RI Fire Department. He has served in several of the city's busiest Engine and Ladder Companies as well as the city's heavy rescue, "Special Hazards 1." Greg retired from the department in June of 2003. Lieutenant Crawford serves with the Regional FEMA USAR Team MA-TF-01. He is a nationally certified fire instructor. A Providence Fire Department instructor and a Barnstable County Fire Academy Instructor. Greg is a featured instructor at many national fire service conferences and has developed and delivered programs on Firefighter safety and survival, rapid intervention, thermal imaging and heavy rescue operations. Greg responded on 9-11-01 to the World Trade Center with MA-TF-01.

Paul Doughty

Paul Doughty is a Firefighter who has spent 14 years of his 17 year career assigned to "Special Hazards 1" the City of Providence RI's heavy rescue company. Firefighter Doughty is the Technical Rescue Program coordinator for the Rhode Island Fire Academy. Firefighter Doughty is a Rescue Squad Officer for the FEMA USAR Task Force MA-TF-01, and has lectured frequently on search and rescue practices. Paul is Vice President of the Providence Firefighters Local 799. A practicing attorney and a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association. Paul responded with MA-TF-01 to the World Trade Center on 9-11-01 as the Rescue Squad Officer. Paul has instructed several programs for the Providence Fire Department utilizing his vast, first hand experience.

Michael Gomes

Michael Gomes is a 14 year veteran of the New Bedford MA Fire Department currently serving as the Captain of Ladder Company 1. A second generation firefighter, Mike has served in several of the busiest companies in the city as a firefighter and fire officer, He is a nationally certified fire instructor and teaches a number of programs on a local, state and national level. Mike serves as a Rescue Squad Officer on the FEMA USAR Task Force MA-TF-01. He has extensive experience in building construction and operates his own construction company. Drawing on his construction background, Mike is a FEMA Structural Collapse Technician Instructor, specializing in many aspects of technical rescue training. Mike responded to the World Trade Center in 9-11-01.

Thomas Kenney

Thomas Kenney is a Lieutenant and 21 year veteran of Hyannis MA Fire Department whose 30 year emergency service career began with the City of Boston Department of Emergency Medical Services in January 1973. He graduated from the First City Hospital Paramedic Training Program in May 1979. He has been a national registered Paramedic since 1979. Tom teaches a number of technical rescue and firefighting programs for the Barnstable County Fire Academy and is a ACLS instructor, a PALS instructor and State Certified Fire Instructor II. Lieutenant Kenney is also a FEMA Structural Collapse Instructor and serves in the Regional FEMA USAR Team MA-TF-01. He responded to the World Trade Center on 9-11-01.

Dennis Macedo

Dennis Macedo has 20 years of experience with the New Bedford, Massachusetts Fire Department, spending the majority of that time on the busiest fire companies in the city. Dennis also has been a member of the FEMA Urban Search and Rescue (MATF-1) for ten years, where he is a rescue squad officer. He is a national certified instructor and is the program coordinator for all advanced fire programs at the Barnstable County Fire-Rescue Training Academy. Dennis is also a specialty instructor with the New Hampshire State Fire Academy as well as a FEMA USAR instructor. Dennis has had extensive training in the heavy/technical rescue fields over his career.
